volunteer spotlight
Fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I first learned of God’s Hygiene Help Center watching the 2019 Jefferson Awards on our local channel 10 noon news. I was very moved by everything that Tammy had been through and her fierce determination to help others through her love of God. I then began donating to GHHC. Over the years I was moved by the Holy Spirit to become more involved in serving God and when I prayed about it I always heard “God’s Hygiene” being echoed back to me. There were always reasons why I didn’t pursue volunteering at GHHC including various health issues and the covid period. Even though I was dragging my feet the Holy Spirit never gave up and constantly was reminding me with gentle “love taps’’ where he wanted me.
One Sunday morning at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church I recognized Tammy sitting across from me. During the passing of the peace I got up and went over and introduced myself to her. I told her that the Holy Spirit had brought me to her and I wanted to help wherever I could. She looked at me and said “I’ve been praying for you.” The following week I volunteered at their Linden location with other volunteers that Tammy calls ”Linden Angels.” I was surrounded by devoted Christians serving God through administering to those in need, all on a volunteer basis. I started by filling the containers that we give to our clients in need with six items of their choosing from hygiene and cleaning items. This also may include items such as clothing, books, Bibles and the occasional bag of dog food . Tammy is always greeting the cars in the long line with a smile and prayer. There is always prayer before we start and sometimes during busy times.
Grace is what I’m learning, along with patience and stewardship to those in need. Sometimes working through weather, tired muscles, physical ailments, and dealing with the needs of God’s people are the Angels with Tammy in the lead. On the occasional slower time I enjoy homemade food and treats made by one of the Angels. I walked around the center looking at where I know my monthly donation is going and felt such a presence of the Holy Spirit. This was also solidified by the smiles and thank you’s from those in need and the joy on the faces of young children who received a book or a sucker.
I don’t know what the future will bring but I know for a fact that God wants me here with this amazing group of people to further the mission of God’s Hygiene Help Center.
God Bless,
Rene Ware
prayer gathering
On Tuesday, June 4 GHHC held its monthly Prayer Gathering with Trina Oates sharing the message. We had 32 in attendance including children, residents of the Phoenix Recovery Center, and Linden neighbors. After a wonderful inspiring message based on scripture, Trina asked for prayer requests. Two women shared they had just lost a female relative from murder that week. Afterwards the attendees enjoyed Donato pizza, Cheryl’s cookies, bottled water and a choice of clothes left over from our garage sale.
“Hello, my name is Trina Oates.. I am the speaker for God’s Hygiene on every first Tuesday of the month. I speak on different aspects of the Bible to encourage everyone in the goodness of God. And to bring about awareness of certain aspects that may not be known.
Last gathering I spoke on the attributes of God (God’s characteristics).
One thing to know about God is He’s Sovereign. This means he is Supreme Power and authority.
So this gives us hope that there’s nothing in life we go through that the power of the universe (God) can’t help us with and help us through.
Please join us at our next Prayer Gathering on August 6, 2024 at 12:30 pm.
EAGLES fundraiser FOR GHHC
On Saturday, June 15 the Columbus Linden Eagles #2252 Auxiliary provided a Steak Dinner fundraiser for God’s Hygiene Help Center. Volunteers David and Diane served the dinner plates to the guests while Tammy handled our resource table. Some attendees plan to share our information with other organizations. It was definitely a fun evening of outreach to the community. We thank the women’s Auxiliary for their generosity in providing the evening fundraiser.
Period Pantry
GHHC so appreciates the partnership we have with the Period Pantry. “The Period Pantry Project exists to ensure that anyone in the Central Ohio area who needs menstrual products is able to access them.”
GHHC always strives to use donations to provide hygiene items at the most economical cost. Our Feminine Hygiene Coordinator Cindy Lach keeps count of products on hand and when we need to reorder stock. She can place an order once a month and they deliver to us.
Thank you to The Period Pantry Project for partnering with us and for Cindy’s coordination.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10
LINDEN POLICE LIAISON
Officer Bill Varney is the North Linden community liaison and he regularly stops by GHHC just to say hello. A neighbor and client had left her ID at our Help Center. When asked, Officer Bill said he would be glad to take it to her. The woman was so grateful. She had been looking all over for her license and couldn’t remember where she had left it. Thank you to our wonderful City of Columbus police officers! You are the best!
But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 1 SAMUEL 12:24
clean start basket
Paul Sparks picked up a Clean Start Basket plus a bucket of cleaning supplies for a newly released resident and participant of the Embark program.
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
NNEMAP FOOD PANTRY
“NNEMAP Food Pantry is a place where caring community members come together to help their neighbors who are in need of a hand up. For over 50 years, NNEMAP has been a valued resource for families in need. We are pleased to serve you! NNEMAP is located at 677 E. 11th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43211 in South Linden. ” NNEMAP has requested to partner with GHHC. So we have provided client order forms and flyers with our hours for their clients. Clients then can bring the form with their ID to our Help Center to pick up needed hygiene and cleaning products.
our wonderful volunteers
The intense heat wave hit Columbus the week of June 16 and way into July. Our dedicated volunteers still worked in the heat greeting clients and getting their ID’s. When the heat index rose about 90, we closed GHHC 30 minutes early. We could have kept going but we don’t want them to get sick. Even though we closed early, our amazing volunteers still served 67 individuals and families in the heat. Everyone had the option of being prayed over. A number of clients asked for a bottle of water and we were glad to give water out to them.
After we closed, several vehicles pulled into our parking lot. Tammy went to talk to them. “Do you know why we are here? We heard your story and we wanted to hear it from you. Is it true? From Call Girl to Disciple! Is this center government funded?”
Tammy, “No, it’s all volunteer and yes I love Jesus and sharing about how He changed me.” One lady started crying.
“Don’t cry. I am not that person. I am a new creation in Jesus.”
Hot days, but fun! Tammy’s brother and her great niece came out to help us at God‘s Hygiene Help Center. Ross Jewell handed out ice cold bottled water and my great niece handed out candy. After that she went in and did paperwork. Oh what a blessing it was thanks brother thanks Maddie love, Tammy.
This little guy is getting some candy and ice cold water. Thank you, Ross Jewell for bringing the ice and the ice water. Also, thank you for bringing the candy special. Thanks to my great niece Maddie.
Thank you to Brenda S’s grandson who volunteered to work on tech issues to get the printer hooked up to the computer.
